Nurvis Purvis Brewing Co.
2024 // COMMERCIAL TENANT IMPROVEMENT// 3,500 sf
Carlsbad, New Mexico
Project Overview
Nurvis Purvis Brewing Co. is a locally owned craft brewery and taproom developed by a Carlsbad-based husband-and-wife team bringing small-batch brewing and community gathering together under one roof. The project transforms an existing pre-engineered metal building into a vibrant neighborhood taproom and production brewery, supporting both front-of-house hospitality and back-of-house brewing operations.
Design Intent
The owners approached the project as a true local startup: hands-on, detail-driven, and rooted in the Carlsbad community. With the husband serving as brewmaster and wife overseeing operations and brand development, the design needed to support both the technical demands of brewing and the experiential quality of a welcoming taproom.
The goal was to create a space that feels informal, energetic, and authentic — a place where the brewing process is visible, the brand identity is present throughout, and the taproom functions as a social anchor rather than a traditional bar.
Architectural & Interior Approach
The tenant improvement reorganizes the existing 3,600-sf metal building into distinct yet connected zones: a public taproom, bar service area, brewing and production space, walk-in cooler, and support areas. Clear circulation, durable floor systems, and upgraded MEP infrastructure were coordinated closely with brewery equipment planning and health department requirements.
Interior finishes and detailing were developed collaboratively with the owner, who is a professional graphic designer. BSTK worked closely with PurVis Designs on the interior color palette, wall graphics, signage, and overall brand expression, allowing the architecture and graphics to reinforce a cohesive visual identity throughout the space.
Exposed structure, sealed concrete floors, wood accents, and bold color applications establish an industrial-yet-approachable aesthetic aligned with the brewery’s brand and craft ethos.
